Next month Mavs center Zaza Pachulia will host his first summer camp at his his new basketball academy in Tbilisi, the capital city of his native Georgia, as reported on the NBPA’s site.
Pachulia’s academy opened last fall but improvements have continued into 2016, including the addition of the Milwaukee Bucks’ previous court. Pachulia was with Milwaukee before the Mavs acquired him via trade last summer.
“I’m very excited honestly and I can’t wait to get there,” he told the NBPA. “It’s great to see Georgia having this kind of basketball facility where kids are going to have a chance to not only practice in a good environment, but also practice with great coaches and learn the right way, learn discipline, professionalism, the game of basketball, [its] history.”
Georgia has produced five NBA players in the country’s history, but Pachulia — known on the floor for his toughness and competitive spirit, but off the floor has tremendous business savvy — hopes his academy will help to groom the next generation of Georgian basketball and perhaps develop players into NBA-caliber athletes.
“Hopefully with this academy we can talk about having three, four or five guys who are going to be in the draft one day. That would be amazing. That’s definitely my dream,” he said.
