It’s election season and the Dallas Mavericks are empowering the community to vote.

On Tuesday, Oct. 1, the team hosted its first of several planned voter registration initiatives with a drive-thru-style event at the Mavs’ Stemmons Freeway headquarters.

“At the Dallas Mavericks we believe that every voice matters, and we encourage our fans and community to register to vote and participate in all elections from local and municipal to national elections,” said Sean Reed, the Mavericks’ director of social responsibility.

Ahead of the 2020 presidential election, the Mavs bolstered voter registration initiatives to increase accessibility and participation.

Since then, the team has hosted numerous opportunities for community members to register and partnered with 11 non-partisan organizations to amplify reach.

Included in that lineup are the Dallas County Elections Office, March to the Polls and Somos Tejas who helped register new voters during Tuesday’s four-hour event.

With the deadline to register for the upcoming elections fast approaching, the Mavericks will continue efforts to increase civic participation by offering two more opportunities for MFFLs to register.

On Sunday, Oct. 6, the Mavericks will host Fan Jam, presented by ShiftKey, a free-to-attend open practice at the team’s home court American Airlines Center.

Volunteers from the Mavs’ voting partners will be stationed on the main concourse near Section 108 to assist anyone interested in registering.

The following night on Oct. 7, the team opens preseason play at the AAC against the Memphis Grizzlies and will again offer fans an opportunity to register by Section 108.

“We want to be sure that those who are eligible to vote, have access to vote. In Texas, you have to register to vote, and we want to ensure that registering is not a barrier,” said Reed.

“Voting is how people engage with what impacts their daily lives and we want them to be a part of that decision-making process by voting for people who align with their belief systems.”

On the eve of Super Tuesday, the Mavs and teams across the NBA will host Civic Engagement Night for fans at their home arenas. When the Mavericks face the Pacers at 8:45 p.m., the game presentation will feature information encouraging fans to do their research and cast their ballots.

For the Mavericks front office, the team’s headquarters will be closed for the day, allowing staff to dedicate time to head to the polls or even volunteer at their local election site.
