The Dallas Mavericks are proud to recognize the tremendous achievements of Gail O’Bannon, who serves as the Dallas Mavericks VP of Diversity and Inclusion. O’Bannon is one of 13 individuals and six companies  selected by the Dallas Business Journal as a 2021 Leaders in Diversity honoree. She was chosen thanks to her relentless and exceptional commitment to promoting practices that advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

The Dallas Business Journal held a virtual event March 4, 2021, to honor O’Bannon and the other individuals and organizations that showed leadership in the workplace and bolstered equality across all areas of diversity — including age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, race and religion.

For the past 13 years, the Business Journal honored hundreds of North Texas leaders with its Minority Business Leader Awards program, which recognized diverse business leaders who held distinguished track records in advocating for others in their communities and workplaces. This new award program continues that tradition and has expanded to highlight efforts across all areas of diversity and inclusion.

The recognized individuals and companies were selected by judges composed of past honorees and North Texas business leaders.  O’Bannon and the other honorees will be featured in print and digital in March.

O’Bannon is one of the longest-tenured women of the Dallas Mavericks after starting her career in the ticket sales and service department. She was later promoted to lead the team’s diversity, equity and inclusion strategy, a position she still holds today.
