The Mavs ManiAACs are used to showing off their fire dance moves, but for an afternoon they spit flames, too. And I don’t mean they’ve got good rhymes, although a few of them did scream for ice cream.
A group of the bravest ManiAACs for some reason decided to try the One Chip Challenge for The Dallas Morning News. For those who aren’t familiar, all the challenge requires is eating a single chip. Sounds easy, right? Nah, not at all. That single chip is made with the world’s hottest pepper, the Carolina Reaper.
There’s a good chance you’ve probably never consumed one of those bad boys, but I’ve got some deranged friends who enjoy exploring the extremes of the Scoville scale, which measures the heat of a pepper. A jalapeƱo, for example, can be as hot as 10,000 Scoville units. A Carolina Reaper, meanwhile, averages 1,569,300. So we’re talking serious heat.
Five ManiAACs decided to take on the challenge. They each finished the chip, which is what matters I suppose, but they also got to eat a ton of ice cream to recover. To the victors go the spoils.
Personally it makes me very uncomfortable because I’m a wimp when it comes to spicy food. After seeing what happened to the ManiAACs, it seems like no matter how much you enjoy hot stuff, this chip will humble you.
Five courageous/insane Morning News journalists joined in on the torture, too. Check out their experience here. If you plan on participating, just remember: Always suffer responsibly.
