Josh Green and Tyler Bey put pen to paper on Monday when they signed their rookie contract with the Dallas Mavericks. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
The No. 18th overall pick of the Nov. 18 NBA Draft, Green applied for the draft after playing just one season for the University of Arizona Wildcats. The 6-6, 210-pound forward averaged 12 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals while starting all 30 games for the Wildcats last season and is admittedly all giddy about joining the Mavs.
“I’ve always watched the Mavericks from a young age,” Green said on draft night. “They’ve always been dominant in the Western Conference.
“For me to say that I’m a part of the organization is crazy. It’s an unreal feeling.”
Green said he had an “amazing” meeting with the Mavs’ top brass in the days leading up to the draft.
“They’re really down-to-earth, good people,” he said. “I just felt like I got along with them very well, and you could tell they take their player development very serious as well as the organization. I was all for it.
“I was super pumped, and I loved the Mavericks. It’s something I continued to stress to my agent — what are the Mavericks thinking, what about this? So I’m stoked right now.”
Bey, meanwhile, was the 36th overall pick by Philadelphia, and his draft rights were acquired by the Mavs on draft night. A 6-7, 216-pound forward from the University of Colorado, Bey averaged 13.8 points, nine rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals for the Buffaloes last season while shooting 53 percent from the field, and wound up signing a two-way contract with the Mavs.
Even more impressive, in his final season with Colorado, Bey took home Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors. He also led the conference in rebounds this past season.
