MARCH 31, 2025 (DALLAS & MONTERREY, MEXICO) – Last Friday, the Dallas Mavericks unveiled a renovated basketball court in Monterrey, Mexico. Presented by Softtek, the Mavs’ Monterrey court is the third international project by the Dallas Mavericks, following the donation of two courts in Slovenia in 2022 and two courts in Madrid, Spain in 2023.
“The Mavericks should be the team of Mexico,” said Mavericks legend Eduardo Nájera. “This was my dream, when I was playing with the Mavericks, to do this type of event in Mexico. We want to continue the growth of basketball, specifically with the Dallas Mavericks throughout this country. Hopefully, this will be the first of many courts across Mexico.”
“With the Mavericks and Softtek, the kids now have this court, and it’s very important that the community continues to rally around the kids, so they can continue moving forward,” said Mavericks legend Rolando Blackman. “I had that chance, I had that opportunity. People cared for me. And when people care, you’re able to rise.”
“We are so excited to be in Monterrey, on our third international project to grow the game around the world,” said Dallas Mavericks Chief Impact Officer Katie Edwards. “We’ve wanted to be in Mexico for a long time, and it means a lot to see the kids and the community come together around basketball for the first of what we hope are many projects together.”
“Sports are about more than just athletics; they facilitate camaraderie and trust,” said Blanca Treviño, President & CEO of Softtek. “Softtek and the Dallas Mavericks share a passion for finding ways to bring the youth and community together. We are very proud to be collaborating here in Monterrey, with a vision for this to be the first of many in Mexico, together with the Mavs.”
“As sister cities, Monterrey and Dallas have a cherished history together,” said Monterrey Mayor Adrián Emilio de la Garza Santos. “This marks a very important moment for us, to have this type of engagement with the Dallas Mavericks. We’ve always had a lot of Mavs fans, and now there will be many, many more.”
The project continues the NBA’s goal to expand the love of the game and bring people and cultures together through Basketball Without Borders and Global Games. The NBA and several NBA teams have engaged in community projects across the globe to develop basketball skills, reach out to communities and promote the sport of basketball.
