MIAMI — There was a time when the mere thought of walking into Miami’s AmericanAirlines Arena almost made Dallas Mavericks proprietor Mark Cuban sick to his stomach.
But, Cuban said: “Those feelings are all gone — even the good ones. I was thinking about it just as we were driving in.
“I don’t get the chills any more than I did probably two years ago. I guess we’re looking forward as opposed to looking back, but yeah it’s different. It’s definitely different.”
The Mavs and Heat haven’t exactly seen eye-to-eye over the past 13 years. Back in the 2006 NBA Finals, the Mavs led the Heat 2-0 in the best-of-seven series and were up by 13 with under seven minutes remaining in Game 3.
However, the Mavs lost that game and the ensuing three games and the series. In Game 5 of that controversial series the Mavs were 21-of-25 from the free throw line, and Miami’s Dwayne Wade was also 21-of-25 from the free throw line.
But in 2011, the Mavs overcame a 2-1 hole and defeated the Heat in six games to win their only world title.
