The Dallas Mavericks celebrated a historic milestone on Sunday, Jan. 12, as Mavs ManiAAC Rob Maiden, also known as Big Rob, performed in his 1,000th regular season game!
To commemorate the accomplishment that was 20-plus years in the making, the Dallas Mavericks shocked Big Rob with a special presentation ahead of the second quarter.
The long-planned surprise incorporated Rob on the team’s “Copycat Cam,” but while he was striking a pose for the jumbotron, his teammates pulled out a framed jersey customized with “1K” in place of a traditional number.
“I knew [my 1,000th game was] sometime this month, but I really was not paying attention, so they surprised me big time,” Big Rob said. “My mind was thinking, ‘We’re messing up this break why are we screwing up this break on a gameday!’”
“It just feels surreal. Being a ManiAAC is in my heart, and I will say it’s been the honor of my life to represent the organization and be a part of the Mavs family for so many years—and the fans, number one is the fans,” he added.
With his one-of-a-kind personality, long-reliable presence on gamedays, and countless community appearances over the years, Big Rob has established himself as a beacon of positivity, both in and outside the arena.
“You’re talking not just 1,000 games, but 1,000 consecutive home games,” said JJ Tarno, fellow Mavs ManiAAC. “He’s a fixture. If you’re saying 1,000 straight games, that means people every day are expecting to see him here because he’s been here! It’s just been amazing, him bringing us along on that journey to see that joy and energy he brings.”
Just like every other game, fans can expect to see Big Rob back in action at American Airlines Center on Jan. 14 when the Mavs again face the Denver Nuggets.
Congratulations on 1,000, Big Rob, and here’s to more unforgettable performances to come!
