LAS VEGAS – The Mavericks fortified their backcourt depth on Friday with the official signing of Dante Exum.
It’s been a strange basketball path for Exum, who was taken fifth overall in the 2014 draft but had his NBA career sidetracked by a knee injury before his second season.
The last two years he played in Europe and he averaged just over 13 points in 38 games last season while helping Partizan NIL Belgrade to the Adriatic League title.

MAVERICKS SIGN DANTÉ EXUM
The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have signed guard Danté Exum. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Exum (6-5, 214) was the fifth-overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and spent seven seasons in the NBA before spending the past two seasons overseas with FC Barcelona and Partizan NIL Belgrade. The veteran guard holds career NBA averages of 5.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 18.6 minutes in 245 games (72 starts) with Utah and Cleveland. Additionally, Exum has NBA Playoffs experience playing in 17 postseason games with Utah.
“Dante is a versatile guard who plays both ends of the court at a high level,” said General Manager Nico Harrison. “Offensively, he can play both on and off the ball and his size allows him to be on the floor in many different lineup combinations. We are excited to bring him back to the NBA after he led Partizan to the EuroLeague playoffs last season.”
Exum averaged 13.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 38 games last season with Partizan and won an Adriatic League Championship. Over his two-year stint in the EuroLeague, he shot 41.9% from 3-point range.
The Melbourne native in a member of the Australian national team and helped lead the Boomers to a bronze medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Current Maverick Josh Green was Exum’s teammate on that medal-winning squad.
Exum will wear No. 0 for the Mavericks.
