Dallas – Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynt Marshall was honored Friday afternoon by the Genesis Women’s Shelter with the 2019 Jane Doe Award, which recognizes her “extraordinary commitment to standing alongside women and their children throughout their journey to an abuse-free life.” She joined past recipients including Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, the Junior League of Dallas and The Dallas Morning News.

The Jane Doe Award is bestowed in honor of the thousands of women who must remain faceless and nameless as they flee domestic violence, and recognizes individuals or organizations that display an extraordinary commitment to standing alongside women and their children throughout their journeys to abuse-free futures.

“Cynt is leading the charge for a culture transformation as the Dallas Mavericks seek to set the NBA standard for inclusion and diversity,” said Jan Langbein, CEO of the Genesis Women’s Shelter.

Marshall received her award at the 26th Genesis Annual Luncheon featuring keynote speaker Terry Crews. She chronicled a childhood of catastrophic difficulties after growing up with an abusive father. She’s since turned her tragedy into triumph, using her voice as a beacon of hope across the NBA, Dallas Mavericks organization and the North Texas community.

“Cynt Marshall is a changemaker in the Dallas community and an example for everyone on what zero-tolerance toward domestic abuse and violence against women looks like,” Langbein said.

“Her focus on inclusion, integrity and authenticity goes beyond identifying problematic behaviors; she is action-oriented, and Genesis has seen her dedication first-hand through her and the Maverick’s creation of a family night at our Shelter, participation in our adopt-a-family holiday program and speaking at our annual HeROs breakfast.”

In the fall, the Dallas Mavericks created the Healthy Relationships & Domestic Violence Support page. Through healthy relationship initiatives, domestic violence prevention support, and providing access to critical resources, the Dallas Mavericks came together to help those in need in North Texas. The Mavericks raise awareness to never commit, condone, or remain silent about violence against women in order to create safe places within homes in our community. To find out more, click here.
