The Dallas Mavericks and Kristaps Porzingis, in partnership with Whataburger, have announced the continuation of #KrisStops, a community initiative that launched last season to fight childhood hunger. With every block this season, Porzingis will personally donate $500 to the Mavs Foundation, which will then be distributed to local organizations to aid in the fight against childhood hunger in North Texas. As part of its Feeding Student Success program, Whataburger will donate an additional $100 for every block made by the 7-3 Porzingis, making it $600 per block.

In the campaign’s inaugural season, including playoff games, a total of $104,000 was raised. The Mavs Foundation allocated the funds to those most in need during the pandemic including Aunt Bette’s Community Pantry at St. Philip’s School and Community Center, Catholic Charities of Fort Worth, Dallas Afterschool, Metrocrest Services, Network Community Ministries, North Texas Food Bank, Tarrant Area Food Bank and Brighter Bites.

Accompanying Porzingis’ contribution in blocks made during the season, he also participated in an augmented reality larger than life campaign where fans could also donate to the cause. Participants were given the chance to shoot a virtual basket while trying to avoid being blocked by Porzingis. The video ended with an introduction to the #KrisStops cause and highlighted the fight to combat childhood hunger.
